Agricultural Stress Index in Iraq - December 2016

About this Project

The Iraq ASI during December 2016 showed less aridity and an improved Vegetation Health Index (VHI) of cropland areas compared with previous periods. This was due to significant amounts of rainfall (about 200mm) in the northern parts of the country, particularly in the governorates of Dohuk, Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Kirkuk and Ninewa. Cropland areas of Salaheddin, Wassit, Basra, Anbar, and Baghdad received about 30-75mm of rainfall during the reporting period.

Please note that since the ASI is based on remotely sensed data only, there is no confirmation on what crops have been planted.
